Ali Schulnik

  Allison Schulnik is a dancer, artist, animator, and potter living in Sky Valley, CA. Born and raised in a small surfside enclave of San Diego, she spent 21-years in Los Angeles before eventually touching down in the low desert in 2017. Allison holds a BFA in Experimental Animation from CalArts School of Film/Video, and is listed among a small handful of elite visionary luminaries to graduate from the program: https://calarts.edu/filmvideo/alumni . Her claymation dance films have been shown internationally, earning her prestigious awards at SXSW and Ottawa International Film Festivals. Her artwork and films have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the globe, and she was tapped by the famed Alternative/Indie band Grizzly Bear for two stunning claymation films garnering millions of views online. Allison has danced and performed for over forty years in San Diego, Los Angeles, and New York. She was a member of the Isaacs, McCaleb and Dancers Junior Dance Company.  Allison also performed in several performative LA-based art metal bands as vocalist and guitarist. She studied dance at Edge PAC LA, The Sweat Spot, CalArts Dance, Tremaine, and Martha Graham School with dozens of well-regarded choreographers such as Ryan Heffington, Nina McNeely, Bill Prudich, Jean Isaacs, Nancy McCaleb, Mandy Moore, Terri Best, Malaya, Michael Rooney, and Kitty McNamee. Her favorite styles to teach are Contemporary, Jazz and Tap. She and her daughter Tupelo Honey have been in the Starlight family for three years.
